What Is Sports Marketing?

Sports marketing is a branch of the marketing industry that involves the promotion of and the arrangement of sponsorship deals for sporting events, venues, teams, and individual athletes.

Sounds like a fun career to get into.  How can someone land a career in sports marketing you ask?  Well, to get involved with sports marketing, you usually have to first get your foot in the door with a sports marketing firm and learn the business.   It is definitely difficult to get your foot in the door and land a job.  So how can someone land a job with a sports marketing firm.  Well, positive relationships with people in the industry is a definite must; and although it is not required, it is suggestible that you attain at least a bachelors degree in the business or marketing or marketing field.

Five words: Be different and do everything.  Attend all athletic events, networking sessions, and apply everywhere to meet anyone and everyone.  Have your resume and cover letter ready at all times, therefore, when the opportunity comes in for an interview, you’ll be ready.
