Sports Injury Treatment

Sport Injury, Really Need Help, Doctors & Physios?
after playing a rugby game completely injury free, in celebration after winning i jumped up in the air and when i landed it was painful to walk. when i landed it may have twisted. all the pain on the lateral part of the knee.. i don’t remember there being an audible pop or crack.
i can extend leg fully. walk almost properly. can’t bend leg without pain though.
lateral knee pain, can’t bed, not caused by a direct blow, caused by either a twist or awkward land.
what’s my injury ? and then treatment ? recovery time ? thank you x
George, it is possible that you may have injured your lateral meniscus but I doubt it. More than likely you have sprained the lateral collateral ligament. The meniscus injury if it is that would have come from the landing as you have stated. It would be an injury that is from an accumulation of stresses imposed upon the knee from most likely the rugby. If this is the case then you are going to have to work on strengthening both legs. The important aspect for you to understand is that you must always start your workout by working the weaker or uninjured part first. In this case it is your knee. Start by working the uninjured leg for 3 sets of a movement and then duplicate that movement on the injured side. Work the uninjured knee for 3 sets and then the injured knee for 3 sets. This will help to increase the amount of strength that you have in the injured side. If it is a ligament then you would be doing the same for this injury. You do not want to have surgery as it is not really going to help you in the long run. If the injury doesn’t improve in the next few days get an MRI of the knee. This will give specific information as to what possible damage was done.
