What would be the best lens to shoot equestrian sports?

My camera CanonXSI.
Also any tips on how to get a photo with the least amount of blur?? (I’m new to this)

When I go to Keenland or Churchill Downs, and when I was at the World Equestrian Games back in the fall, I almost overwhelmingly see 300mm 2.8s. This is pretty much standard for any sport. On a full frame camera, 300mm is about right to fill the frame with a horse at typical press distances.

It’s not uncommon to see longer, though-400s, 500s, 600s, and even 800s common.

Watch the sidelines carefully at the Derby, and you might see a Canon 1200mm make an appearance.
